You can say that again. AOC's narcissism makes her blind to the fact that attending that event reveals her hypocrisy and is a mockery of her so called ideologies. And betrays her constituents in Jackson Heights. Astounding.

This reminds me of Melania's fashion statement. "I really don't care, do u?" When Melania visited the children detained at the border.

Equally tone deaf. But both instances reveal their truths.

AOC  craving to be part of that rich MET world. Melania not really caring.

^One could argue -- as A O-C will, no doubt -- that unlike Melania's fashion faux pas, hers was intended to subvert the event and its exclusionary sociopolitical implications. Unfortunately, despite a "Tax the rich" slogan on a designer dress, attending a gala for the 1% gives the far right even more fodder against any real progressive agenda.

At the same time, what did we on the left really expect from someone whose initial funding came from a 'techbro'? Color me surprisedNOTsurprised, though still very disappointed.

Attending the met gala is an example of corruption? (how? corruption in politics implies pay-for-play or pay-not-to-do-anything? how does wearing an expensive dress to a fashion gala imply corruption?)

or hypocrisy (by attending an event with rich people..... somehow you are betraying the poor?)

These are inane statements devoid of logic or reasoning, and stoop to the level of smears.

While y'all are whining like children distracted by a shiny bauble, about AOC wearing a dress, "moderate" Dems and Republicans in congress are literally selling your children's future to billionaires.

Try as a person might, by insulting those who see that the EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES, or in this case wears designer clothes...or trying to focus  the conversation elsewhere... the truth of AOC  has been revealed.  And no-one's falling for insults or bait and switch tactics.

I don't understand the criticism. First it was - she's an unqualified bartender. Then it was - she's a fake because she graduated college and was taped dancing with her fellow students. Then it was - how could she afford a business suit to wear on the House floor, or to rent a place in DC. Now she's a traitor because she attended the Met Gala?

Who cares. I would have gone in a second to that Gala. And the very fact that Ana Wintour invited her speaks to her relevance, exposure and standing - all good things if we want anything done in the community. Stop beating on a young woman just because she dresses nice. It's silly.

It's not that. The cost of the Met Ball for her and her outfit can be up to $100K. Or more.

Meanwhile, I still see lines for food distribution in Jackson Heights.

And AOC's platform is for the under-privileged. Not the over-privileged.

The juxtaposition is astounding. And comes across as dissonant.

It's having your cake and eating it too. Or perhaps reminiscent of, "Let them eat cake!"

If it makes you happy, she's been all over Queens and NYC the past week giving out food and doing flood photo ops and helping out. Just check her Instagram. But of course, all of that stuff doesn't really make headlines and the MET gala does... so...

Let's cut the pretense and be honest. Even her followers know this looks bad.
And that's why Damage Control mode is ramped to the max.

not nearly as bad as Derwood Trump using 9/11 to collect TWO huge paychecks -- one for a speech praising the Unification Church at a Moonie cult meeting and one for his 90 second "announcing" at a fake boxing match featuring early onset victim Evander Holyfield.

sorry, but AOC was on point, and she looked better doing it than Marjorie Taylor Greene does in her weapon-filled self promotional videos.

Strangely, it's expected that Trump does anything for a $. That's his platform. He's kinda being true to himself. Clear.

The message from AOC is far more twisted.  "I say I'm for the poor... but I like living it up with the rich."

I think she's fine

She has condemned the gentrification that might arise due to Amazon etc for us, the little people.

But when it comes to herself, she supports, by being there... the gentrified of the gentrified at the Met Ball.

A stark example of "Do as I say, not what I do..."

Now, clearly, Bernie wouldn't go. An example of being true to one's platform.

And far more admirable in a person's character.

The trait she is revealing has the makings of a future Imelda Marcos.

It was advertising. At $30000 for the invitation, she got her money's worth. It's been all over TV, print and electronic media.
