we have never had reservations, and we're still not going to. It is open to everyone so come if you want to come.  yes there is room. This might get unruly, but we'll see what happens. if it gets tooo big, we can always spread to 2 tables. that wouldn't be a totally bad thing.

Thanks for organizing it all Jeff! It was delicious - and I'm happy to finally find a good bubble tea place too!

I'm sorry I missed it (stayed out/woke up too late). How was the food?

I find my enjoyment of the Jackson Heights Food Group to stem more from the sheer adventure and the joy of meeting nice neighbors than from critiquing the food. The food at New Broadway was perfectly acceptable, and I’d have a hard time imagining how dim sum can be prepared so poorly as to be objectionable anyway, but what a time I had meeting people and interacting with them! We expected fewer guests than actually attended, so the twelve of us all sat close together. That and the round table allowed us to have conversations that involved everybody, as well as smaller conversations too. (I think we were at critical mass, because we probably couldn’t accommodate even one more person at the table.) Everyone had stories, jokes and anecdotes to tell, and everyone was friendly. Then we crossed the street to Quickly and had soft drinks. The leisurely stroll back up Broadway was in perfect weather. And I now also have some new friends on Facebook. (Olivia and Camille, I’m not certain of your user names here on JHL, but feel free to use the link in my signature to find me on Facebook.)

Pictures can be viewed in this photo album beginning with image no. 25 which is on the second page of thumbnails. (Feel free to ignore, or not ignore, the pictures of the go-go dancers from the night before.)

Hey! I don't remember this happening

and I don't think camille and olivia are on JHL. BUT, they are on yelp

and camille just reviewe new broadway. I like how you said it's not about critiquing the food. How true that is becoming. before the event, I was discussing with judibeans how someone thought it might not be good based on the reviews on yelp, we then agreed that that's not a part of it at all and who cares? it's about meeting people and seeing new things. I think estrella broke everyone not to expect fine dining at this event and just to worry about having fun. cheers!

Hmm, well that explains why Jeff always pays with a fistful of singles. :)

Btw, someone mentioned at the March outing that Mehfil on 37th ave had discount certificates on restaurant.com. I bought one, and I just got an email from them with a promotion code "BONUS" that allows you to buy a $25 gift certificate for $4.  The code is good until 4/26 and the gift certificate is good for one year (not on Fridays or Saturdays).  I bought 3 more!

I think I remember the go-go dancers.  They were at Quickly, right?

The entire early afternoon is such a blur!

Ah Jeffo, I waited till your face was turned away before snapping that picture, with the forethought you might disavow knowledge of it. Heaven knows what was in that bubble tea!

I think estrella broke everyone not to expect fine dining at this event and just to worry about having fun.

It’s a shame they now have that reputation, at least in the Food Group, but I must admit I had a fabulous time at Mi Estrella despite their food (and the weather).
