JH Good Neighbors and JHBG e-newsletter
« on: August 09, 2015, 09:53:50 PM »
Thank you to all you took the time to nominate individuals and businesses for JHBG’s Good Neighbor Awards to be presented at a Saturday, Sept. 26 dinner at Community United Methodist Church. We really have a tough job narrowing them down to a manageable number and then there’s the nagging concern that we missed someone, which is inevitable, I guess. If so, we will get them next time around, which with any luck will be in two years, rather than the 8-10 years since the last time we last did this.

Read the e-newsletter for more news on JH and details on the GNA.

JHBG reminds residents of Jackson Heights that the Landmarks Commission Meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday, August 11th (please be there by 1:30pm - the time will be dependent on the previous hearings). the Hearing will be held at the Landmarks Preservation Commission offices at 1 Centre Street (Municipal Building).

We need to have a large turnout to demonstrate the deep concern that the community has. Please make every effort to attend this vital hearing. If you are interested in speaking, please review the items below. All speakers are limited to 3 minutes. Also, all speakers will need to bring a copy of their statements to give to the Commission before speaking.
There will be public speaking and your are encouraged to consider this. But remember this Commission is empowered to "preserve" buildings and areas that are considered - for many reasons - as great examples of life in NYC. So, they are not really interested in population congestion, sewer systems, transportation or even parking issues.

Please make sure to discuss the following points:“preservation”,“unique planning”“character of our commercial district”,“out of context”,“not appropriate in this place”,“precedent”,“historic district”,“respect for existing building”“heritage”

I think we have another another conversation dealing with Tuesday's landmarks hearing elsewhere on JHL. This one deals with JHBG's Good Neighbors Awards.
