Are there fitness classes on the 34th Ave. Open Streets?
« on: August 24, 2020, 07:12:18 PM »
I saw a video online of a Zumba class on 34th Ave. Does anybody know - Is there a regular schedule of such activities, or was this an informal/impromptu kind of thing?

This sounds like Nuala's group from Open Streets. I rode past a couple of weeks ago when as they were starting up a class and the instructor was from the Second Story yoga studio. Lots of social distancing and masks too. I believe there is a sandwich board type sign up in front of the school there in the 90's which lists all of the community activities they do, including the fitness classes.

I've also seen a fitness class in Travers Park in the morning at like 8AM. If anyone has more info on that I'd be curious to learn more!

Walk over and say hi, introduce yourself, and express your interest in joining, and you will probably make some new friends to work out with.

I talked with the Travers Park yoga instructor this morning. The instructor is Elaine from SecondStory. Classes are on a donation basis - a $15 donation for those who can afford it is suggested to support yoga in the park. Cash or Paypal both ok. This is the schedule that started in September and it will continue until it gets too cold:

Travers Park (78th st and 34th Ave)
Tuesdays 8am Yoga with Elaine
Tuesdays 5:45pm Pilates with Kay
Wednesdays 5pm Yoga with Elaine
Thursdays 8am Yoga with Elaine
Thursdays 5:45pm with Jenn
(clase bilingüe)
Saturday 5pm Pilates with Julie

Clases en Español
Avenida 34 y Calle 94
Los Lunes 9:45am
Yoga para La Familia con Siomara
Los Jueves, 3:00pm
Pilates en Español con Kay Ottinger

Elaine is a very good teacher and dedicated to the community. It's nice to take class in the park even if you have to tune out the Zumba down the way. It's all good....

I've been going to Zumba classes in Travers with Lisseth. These have been fun with the steps not being that complicated--and truly all levels, all ages, and plenty of space to distance. She teaches with 1 or 2 other women. It's by donation. She is at Travers on:

Mondays 10 am
Tuesdays 8 am
Wednesdays 8 am
Thursdays 9 am

There's another Zumba teacher named Adry who I've heard is teaching. I'm not sure what her rate is, probably by donation. Her IG is @zin-adry. When I've taken classes w her before it's less dance, and more aerobics, some conditioning: Squats, etc.

Mondays 6:30 pm
Thursdays 6:30 pm
Sundays 9 am

I know there are other teachers too.
