Best burger & fries in Queens
« on: April 03, 2008, 07:32:55 PM »
Five Guys in College Point.  Fresh everything.  While they're cooking you can eat, all you want,  peanuts in the shell.  The fries are served in a brown paper bag.  They have malt vinegar if that's your thing.  Lots of free toppings to choose from.
I don't think anything like these burgers and fries are in JHs.  Really good artery clogging meal.

Donovan's is not as tasty especially the fries.  Donovan's taste like most frozen french fries.  Even Jackson Hole, which has a much bigger size burger, isn't as good.  Sometimes having a burger be too big just doesn't taste as good.  I remember when CUP in Astoria had the largest burgers we'd even seen.  People used to complain because you couldn't eat it without using a knife and fork and it was hard to cook right without over or under cooking it cuz of it's size.

Nope I'm totally into five guys. ha.

Hard to really experience Queens without a car. Is it on a bus route?

I'm a big Five Guys fan, too.  I first got hooked in Maryland, and was thrilled to see them open here.  If College Point is difficult to get to, you can visit them in several locations in Manhattan.

This link tells you how to get their but it's a schlep without a car.  According to this article, one is opening in June in Brooklyn Heights, and two more are coming to Manhattan.

Find a friend with a car if you can.  Chowhound is the only review I've read so far that didn't dig em.  Gothamist thought they were "fabulous".  I'm saying fab, too.

Dude, it's a chain like those great burger chains in Los Angeles.   I freakin love In' N' Out Burgers.  Chain isn't a dirty word here.  Google Five Guys College Point and read Gothamist etc.  They're freshly made burgers and fries.

Being a local folk, I've never ventured much onto the mainland, so don't know about LA and other exotic locales.

Poor baby, u don't know what you've been missing.  Besides L.A.'s  In' N 'Out Burgers, Jersey used to have Stewarts Root Beer chain (few still exist but it's not the same). Ya gotta get out more.

Yes, many have mentioned my parochial nature. But I did just get back from Scotland. . .

It's that car thing, you know.

Yeah, I know.  You probably grew up in NY.  I was brought up in Jersey.  Everyone drove.  My friends in NY never drove.

I hear Scotland's cool.  Not sure about their burger scene though...

Burgers in Scotland only come from MickeyD and BK. I had a kitchen, so cooked or ate seafood when out.
