Frozen Yogurt

There is a new place going up on 82nd and Roosevelt, I really couldn't tell the name i know it's not Pinkberry but some other rather obscure brand . But, hey it's an improvement from the cellphone shop it replaced it is also a corner property so I think it might spruce up that corner a little

I saw it on Saturday I was shocked! it's like yogifoe I'm glad though that they are on a corner does beat a cellphone store, or some new colombian clothing boutique.

I finally got around to trying the yogurt at Yogurtberry.  I didn't like the Green Tea because I don't like the taste of green tea so that was no surprise.  The plain was plain.  I was very surprised that those were the only options.  I don't know what I expected.  Maybe frozen yogurt flavors a la Baskin Robbins.  I did like all the fresh fruit toppings to choose from but decided I just wanted to taste the yogurt. I thought it was pretty inside with the cut out of grass in the wall.  I liked it.  But I'm simple.

I have to say I thought Yogurtberry to be disgusting! Their frozen yogurt has a powdery, chemical aftertaste and the price is outrageous. In a working class neighborhood, it out prices most of the residents, catering primarily to the yuppie crowd from Williamsburg and Park Slope that have invaded Jackson Heights and hunger for something trendy in what they otherwise deem a cultural wasteland because it contains so few things that are familiar to them. The decor is nondescript and I have been waiting for an inevitable "for rent" sign to appear in the window.

I love yogurberry!  I have to restrain myself from going there more than twice a week.  And actually, even though I am one of the invaders who has come to this neighborhood from Brooklyn (if you want to comment on this, please see the gentrification thread), I have noticed that whenever I am in there, at least 50% of the time I hear the customers speaking Spanish. 

So I would have to disagree with your assertion that the only people who go there are yuppies from Park Slope and Williamsburg.  Also, I am not sure how you would know who the customer base is since you've only been there once.

And last week while I was there I had the pleasure of having my very first real conversation ever in Spanish with someone I met there.  It was stilted to say the least, but it was a proud moment.  I am really enjoying learning - just started about a month or two ago.

edited to say: Yogurberry is a Korean franchise that has outlets in Korea, Malaysia, China and Thailand, and is about to open in Syria and Dubai.  Actually seems perfect for JH.

I also worry that Yoguberry won't survive... it is often empty when I've been walking by recently.  So I've been making an extra effort to help keep it open!  I'm sure the crowds will arrive when the weather warms up.

But clearly this is a trend that hasn't peaked yet.  When Yofiore opens at 82nd & Roosevelt, we'll have three of these Korean-style yogurt places in close walking distance (the third is inside the Esparks Coffee at 80th & Broadway).  I'll bet there are more to come.

I also think Yogurberry is a great addition to Jackson Heights. It's true that they picked a bad time to open, but they survived the winter so business should pick up. A couple of weeks ago, on the first really nice day of the year, my first thought was of Yogurberry. I hope they are able to be a long-term resident.

Don't see Yogurtberry going anywhere. I've seen the place full at times. Wait until the summer when the whether is consistently conducive to it.  They also plan to get some kind of blended flavors.

That's good to know Kate.  Like Buddy, I enjoy variety, so the additional flavors will be a huge plus! They currently have a "Now Hiring" sing on the window, so maybe they're getting ready for the warm weather rush.

Does anyone know if these Yogurt Places are similar to Tasti D Lite?  Now that's good frozen Yogurt.  It's low in calories and they offer a variety of flavor.  If you haven't tried it yet, I think you will really enjoy it.
