THIS STORY REALLY CAPTURED THE DEVASATION FOR THE PEOPLE INVOVLED. :'(

I am going to miss Tom and the other merchants. They really made us more of a community.
Thanks to each one of you. :smitten:

Stay tuned....a fundraiser is in the air, which will take the interest and participation of all our neighbors - individuals and businesses alike.

The first thing I thought about was the poor shoemaker dude and I was so pleasantly surprised to see I am not the only one!

Someone mentioned a fundraiser, and I think that's a great idea. Even something simple like collecting donations for those businesses affected would be great.

I just really really hope this lot doesn't go to shit like the one on 82nd and 37th did after it's fire years ago. Hopefully the same or similar business have the chance to rebuild there.

sounds good!
Think before you speak.  Speak your mind.  Mind your business.  Business before pleasure.
Any questions?

This is horrible. I was out of town last week and didn't get a chance to check in.

FYI, www.zabasearch.com is a really reliable way to get people's addresses (apparently except for mine).

My dad ran down and took photos of the flames, heh  ::)

We saw the smoke from our building on 80th and 35th. My mom is pretty sad about it, she used to go to this shoe repair guy on that block, now his store is gone. Alot of memories going to the store with her when I was a child.

Good news is that the furniture store and liquor store that were destroyed in the fire found some new spaces...between 86th and 85th street- former Cavalier and hairdresser location.

Yea the furniture store found a place , but I do not think its the same people though. Because the "furniture" they sell at this new place is total garbage not only that but there is furniture all over the street and the corner , what a P.O.S this thing is; a real eyesore . Seriously when is JH going to look decent retail wise , big national chains or no chains our retail is crap . I'm beginning to think JH is just a big old lost cause of crappy looking retail with the exception of couple of storefronts .

I haven't seen this, but is the furniture out on display on the street, or is the store receiving/making a furniture delivery?

On display, they receive the deliveries and such through the back.

When they were in their pre-fire location, they had furniture all over the sidewalk all the time too.  It was both display pieces and stuff that had been delivered.  It never was an asset to the 'hood esthetically.

Willo Barber appears to be working on their new space to the left of Listo el Pollo, and to the right of Cafe La Nueva the bakery.

That's one place I do not miss!  As you have read from my previous posts, they were TERRIBLE neighbors - noisy day and night.  The corner is peaceful at night now.

Amen! Don't miss Willo the barber on 84th Street.  Hate passing it on my way to La Nueva.
Furniture Corner looks horrible...would have been a great space for a nice cafe.
