Here are the choices for July:

Ihawan is a Filipino BBQ restuarant in woodside
Menu: http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/bigmap/queens/menus/ihawan.htm
Yelp reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/ihawan-woodside
Review with pictures on Chowhound: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/379792

The Arepa Lady is a Roosevelt Ave legend. If we were to select this, the day and time would have to be Saturday at 10.30pm. There are a lot of variables in this choice, but when the stars align, the results are beautiful.
Will she be out? Check her MySpace page the days before: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/379792

Tortilleria Nixtamal is a new taqueria in Corona. It is a very special restaurant, perhaps the most remarkable being that they make their own tortillas with homemade masa. This is not your ordinary taco shop.

Dates? July 6th,12th, 19th, 26th or the corresponding saturday. we will work it out as it gets closer, just post your vetos.

+1 Tortilleria Nixtamal

I want to go so bad but don't want to spoil it in case it's selected for a food group meetup.

Tortilleria Nixtamal!

I'm ashamed as a filipino that I'm not voting for Ihawan. I just haven't found a filipino restaurant that's good. Filipino food is tough to please. There's nothing like mom's.

I would do the Arepa lady...but I feel unless it wasn't the for the food group - I would never make the trek out to Corona so I'm sticking to my vote.

So far all dates are fine except the 12th - I like the 6th the best as I haven't seen you all for two meet ups! I miss your faces.

Two votes for Ihawan!  Surprisingly enough, hubby and I have never had filipino food.  Looks like we can only do the 12th and 19th.

Just found (what I think) is great food - that happens to be filipino!
This little hole in the wall place on Woodside ave and 65th street called Go2 King. 65-40 is the address.
They are just 2 weeks old, have 2 tables and 8 chairs, and serve from the steam tables but also have a rotisserie oven cooking chicken. I went there yes\terday and thought the food was excellent. The owner was sweet and the prices are cheap. They used to be in Jamaica for 5 months, then they got kicked out by the landlord. I'm glad they decided to come here.
Show them some love and check it out. I hope they make it.

Tortilleria Nixtamal sounds the most interesting, especially since most people have probably already tried Ihawan and Arepa Lady. I'd like to join if you end up picking Nixtamal.

The dates are fine but 7/12 is Tour de Queens.

Thanks for organizing this!

I am fairly new to Jackson Heights but I would love to meet up with people & go to restaurants. Do I have to do anything besides show up Smiley
I would vote for Tortilleria Nixtarnal but all sound good. I still have not actually had any of the famed arepas from the Arepa Lady.

Hi Tara, the only thing you have to do is want to join. This group exists so people can explore new parts of the neighborhod, new foods and restaurants, and meet open-minded people. We go to always authentic, sometimes adventurous places in the area.

I will put down your vote for Nixtamal. I will let you and everyone else know what the decision is (by July 1st). Hope you can make it.
Go to the Arepa Lady! It looks like she's going to lose this vote, but she is there after 10pm on fridays and saturdays. It will probably change your life.

Sounds wonderful. I definitely have it in mind to visit the Arepa Lady. The later dates in July work best for me.

Hey guys, this is my 1st post on Jackson Heights Life! I never thought I would come across an online forum for Jackson Heights, but I have to admit that it's kind of cool. I've lived here for 23 years of my life, but I rarely if ever do anything in the 'hood...which is kind of sad. Anyways, I hope to catch the next group function and look forward to meeting you guys  Smiley

I'll put in a vote for Tortilleria Nixtamal and also would prefer the later July dates.

I will throw a vote for Ihawan, since it appears to be losing. It all sounds good to me. The only place I would ever veto would be the "9.95 All Liver Buffet". Where is the Arepa lady?
