Colony Kosher Deli

Did anyone ever eat at or buy food from the Colony kosher deli. The deli was located on 82nd St. right off of Roosevelt Avenue.  The Jackson Movie Theater was near the deli.  The Colony movie theater was in Jackson Heights and the Jackson movie theater was in Elmhurst.

One of my fondest memories was buying a 15 cent hot dog after watching a double feature at the Jackson or the Colony. Did it have a vat of Sauer kraut that you could apply to your hot dog taking as much as you wanted? I think so. The hot dogs were salty and garlicky and washed down with Dr Browns were a perfect after movie treat.

I ate there the very last day before it closed with my parents prior to 1969. It was a double store front and I remember
the waiter who was there. Now there is only one Kosher Deli left in Queens.

Kew Gardens Hills has a couple of Kosher Delis.

How's the pastrami sandwich at Knish Nosh. Closer to that Boar's Head crap or Katz's/Pastrami Queen?

To me, it seems the food at Knish Nosh is mostly home made. It's kinda like out of someone's home kitchen.
Definitely not Boar's Head commercial stuff.

pastrami is several cuts (no pun intended) Katz's or Pastrami Queen, but it's real deal deli, not mass produced.

You can't compare mass produced Pastrami like Boar's Head to the Pastrami you buy at a Jewish Deli.  I just saw Boars Head Pastrami in an Italian market for $10.99 a pound.  Ben's Kosher deli in Bayside charge $14.98 for a half a pound of Pastrami which  means it is $30 per pound...pretty pricy, but also very good.

Thanks. I'll give them a shot. $20 a sandwich is ok for real pastrami.

Does anyone also find the name pastrami interesting? Its clearly from Turkish pastirma but pastirma and pastrami have nothing in common. Pastirma is beef and traditional pastrami is goose not beef. Different spices. Pastirma is air dried/cured. Pastrami is brined/smoked.
