Ecuadorean food - Rincón Melania in LIC

Rincón Melania is located in Long Island City, but according to the Times article below, it looks like it's worth the trek for Ecuadorean food. Apart from the wonderful food carts, I don't think we have many choices in terms of sit-down restaurants. Looking forward to trying this one.

Yes! I love Hornado's prep of its signature dish, but my go-to place for other traditional dishes was La Picada Azuaya. Unfortunately, the restaurant was among the group of storefronts that closed along 37th Avenue between 84th and 85th.

Now I'm thinking of the Canelazo that they serve at Casa del Chef. It's perfect for cooler days. Must go back!

I went to Heyli's this weekend, a new Ecuadorean restaurant on Northern between 73rd and 74th by Armondo's. I got the lunch special. It was tripe stew, cow foot soup, salad and rice. With a strawberry soda it was around $11

The tripe was delicious. Extremely tender in a peanut flavored sauce. The soup was good although probably won't appeal to everyone. Looking forward to going back and trying more things.

I had never heard of canelazo - just googled it and it looks delicious. This would be a much better option than vile eggnog for a holiday drink.

The tripe stew (guatita) is one of my favorite dishes if prepared the right way. Thanks for the heads up about Heyli's. I wasn't aware that an Ecuadorean restaurant had opened at that location.

This would be a much better option than vile eggnog for a holiday drink.

Another nice alternative to eggnog during the holiday season is Puerto Rican style coquito.    I just wish I had a good recipe!

This is great news! I’m glad that Rincon Melania is getting the recognition it deserves. I’ve been a few times already, and have fallen in love with their preparation of the tripe stew... the tripe is always tender and flavorful. Their lentils are a must try, too.

My wife is Ecuadorian and her entire family loves this place. We hope to be able to visit there soon.
