Izakaya fuku/sweetory?
« on: November 09, 2019, 02:32:32 PM »
I think this opened a couple of months ago;

https://www.yelp.com/biz/izakaya-fuku-jackson-heights

with a desert place downstairs

https://www.yelp.com/biz/sweetory-queens-2

this would appear to be a good replacement for the sadly departed Zabb Sake Bar; it's in the same building and the desert place uses the same space as Zabb....(perhaps it's the same people?)

Anyone with experience of either care to comment?

I went there late last night. Like all izakayas, they are open till very late, 1.30am or so.

The food was great. We tried the mentai pasta (awesome!), the sashimi salad (super fresh and well spiced), the onigiri (big!) and karaage (fried chicken, which was superb -- this from someone who doesn't like meat). I was eager to try the fried eggplant in fish broth but they didn't have it. Unlike Sake Bar, they don't have any sushi there.

The ambiance is casually cool but it was very cold inside last night.

The place is not owned by the Zabb owners. The bakery is also owned by different owners but it looked very nice.

Definitely worth checking out.
