Special Event Saturday 8/17 at Historic House in Ridgewood
« on: August 14, 2019, 09:30:19 PM »
Show your Queens pride this Saturday (12-6pm) at the Onderdonk House in Ridgewood. It's the "Battle of the Boroughs" - Queens vs. Brooklyn.

Join your team for Tug of War! Hula Hoop Contest! Dance-off! Pie-Eating Contest! Diaper Dash! Three-legged Race! And other lighthearted competitions. There will be separate adult and kid contests. Kings County Brewers Collective (KCBC) and Cider Lab will be selling a selection of beers and ciders, and Ridgewood Kiwanis will be grilling food for purchase, with vegetarian options available. Other activities include trivia, kids' face painting, arts & crafts, dancing and tours inside the historic house. Or you can just enjoy the spacious grounds -- bring a blanket to lounge in the grass.

This event celebrates Arbitration Rock, a boulder that was placed about 250 years ago by a land surveyor to establish a border between Newtown, Queens, and Bushwick, Brooklyn. Today, Arbitration Rock sits on the grounds of the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House (more commonly known as the Onderdonk House) -- which is in Queens, but mere yards from the Brooklyn line. The only Dutch Colonial stone house left in New York City; it was built in 1709.

The Onderdonk House is located at 1820 Flushing Ave., two blocks from Metropolitan Ave. (and a Q54 bus stop).
Jefferson Ave. L stop is 4-5 blocks away.
Admission to the festival is $5 for adults, free for kids under 18.
