Neighborhood & Favorite Japanese Restaurants

I still prefer HK's hot food but I like eating in at Tomo better and I think Tomo has better Tempura especially the veggie. yum.

Can you be a sushi snob if you prefer hot food?    :laugh:   Probably not.

NO MORE CHICKEN JOINTS!  I think we're the chicken capital of the 5 boroughs.

Much faster than HK.  Maybe cuz I'm two blocks away and further from the other but they got here fast.  It was great.  I was hungry.  I love their salad dressing.

I recently ate at Tomo Sushi, right here in jh.  I think it was just okay.  Better than East 21.  I had rock and roll and some other rolls and a Sapporo.  I still love TJ Asian Bistro, the people who work there are sooooooo sweet, funny and nice.  The sushi there is so good, when you eat it you will see that Tomo can't compare.  I'm so not a sushi snob btw, I eat any sushi, even Costco

I love Costco's prepared foods.  I think the quality is good and always fresh.  I've gotten their shrimp platters many times for company. (How lazy am I that I won't even BOIL SHRIMP!)

Tomo, not bad. Price is good, lots of good teriyaki box deals. The Miso Eggplant appetizer was perfect and not greasy.Love the peppered tuna salad. They do a creamy miso carrot salad dressing. For local it is good.

I finally got to see/try Tomo.  I just got take-out, did not sit down.  I thought the salmon/avocado roll was quite nice, the yellowtail sushi fine, but the tuna sushi was not great - it seemed slimy.  But that said, I am still really happy the place is there.  I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood.  The interior is pretty nice looking and I will definitely be back, at least for more salmon avocado rolls.

Wife and I went to ToMo for lunch yesterday.  She is not a lover of Japanese food but is always open to trying a new place, it turned out she really enjoyed the sashimi and the avocado roll and thought the decor was great.  We're looking forward to a return trip soon.

There is a new japenese place between 86th and 87th on 37th Road and it is good! I am not a big japenese food fan, but this place is great. The best is the lunch box - I got Tempura chicken and vegatables, and it comes iwth soup, slad, rice and those little dumpling things, for $7.95, I believe. Huge portions and the restaurant itself is very nice.

It looks like there may be a new Japanese restaurant opening on Northern Blvd. near the corner of 48th Street.  Geographically speaking, would that be considered Woodside?  In any case, it's not too far from here.  The restaurant front has a large "opening soon" banner advertising Kumo Sushi Bar at the location that was temporarily occupied by the Halloween costume shop on Northern.

Anyone have more info on this to share?

hmmm, I know of a kumo in Plainview. It's pretty damn good. i doubt it's the same though, right?
