JHBG CELEBRATES TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL
“HISTORIC JACKSON HEIGHTS WEEKEND”

For the last 28 years the Jackson Heights Beautification Group (JHBG) has sponsored events to celebrate Jackson Heights and the unique role it has played in urban planning history.  These events are a must-see for people interested in historic preservation, innovative planned “Garden” communities, and diverse New York neighborhoods with a true sense of place.

June 8th - Garden Tour
On Saturday June 8th the “Historic Weekend” begins at the Community United Methodist Church at 81-10 35th Avenue with an exhibition of vintage photographs and memorabilia of Jackson Heights.   A slide presentation covering the history of Jackson Heights will be given in the late morning and early afternoon.  A self-guided Garden Tour, also scheduled for Saturday, allows participants to visit at least fifteen private gardens while also viewing numerous others from the street.  These block-long, park-like gardens are unique to Jackson Heights, and are only open to the public one day each year.
o   Slide lectures at 10:45am and 12:15pm at the Community Church, 81-10 35th Avenue. Rain or Shine: FREE
o   Garden Tour from 12 noon to 4:00pm; $10  Tickets can be purchased at Community Church beginning at 10am on June 8th  (Raindate: June 15th)

June 9th - Walking Tour
On Sunday June 9th at noon, escorted Walking Tours will travel through the Historic District, highlighting the apartments, private homes, and commercial and civic buildings that distinguish Jackson Heights from other communities that developed between the two World Wars.
o   Tickets must be reserved in advance.  The tours will meet in front of Community Church, at the southwestern corner of 82nd Street and 35th Avenue. Rain or shine; $10

SAVE! Tickets for both events are $15

•   Community Church: 81-10 35th Avenue (35th Avenue between 81 and 82 Streets)
•   Tickets can be purchased in advance beginning on May 25th at Espresso 77
•   For more information go to www.jhbg.org   Messages can be left for the JHBG at (347) 766 9129

We'll be there. Love this event every year. Be advised- tickets for the tours with leaders
often sell out!

UPDATE:

The weather will be perfect tomorrow, Saturday, for the Garden Tour, so please come!  15 Gardens will be participating - From Linden Court on 84th Street to Washington Plaza on 74th Street.

Garden Tour tickets available at the Community Church beginning at 10am tomorrow.  Espresso 77 should have them as well, for those who want to buy tickets in advance.

I believe there may only be a few walking tour tickets left.  Since just two tours will head out at noon, we have limited the number of tickets to 60.  If someone wants to volunteer to be a tour guide in 2020, let the JHBG know.

Thanks!

Absolutely gorgeous weekend for the Historic Tours. Roses are stupendous this year which might
be a present from all the rain. Thanks to Michele Boudain (sp?) for the gelatos which were so
tasty. And of course, to Dan K. for being a super hero of Jackson Heights.
