Luna's Kitchen & Bar
« on: May 03, 2019, 11:38:00 AM »
I just stumbled across Luna's Kitchen & Bar on Seamless. Does Anyone know anything about this place? They claim to be farm to table on their Yelp page (I'm suspicious of that claim). The menu looks pretty good and they have quite a few healthy options.

i've walked by a few times, and actually walked in to take a look (between meals, so didn't stay). a nice vibe, dark but not too dark. entrance on the side street, and yes, the menu looks good, so hoping to try soon.

this leads me to ask what's the deal with this property? That's the old Arepa Lady space, no? I thought that lot was being developed, and that's why all those businesses were being kicked out. But there are new businesses going in there.

Anyone got information, or was I just misinformed?

you're right...the arepa lady and the tattoo place both said they were being forced out, and i remember reading stories about a seven story mixed use building. maybe people thought twice about relatively expensive residences 25 feet from an elevated subway on that particular stretch of avenue?

the brunch photos on Yelp look pretty good. i know photos don't tell the whole story, but the eggs benedict look legit.

Yes, they do. I think it's worth a try!

Odd. Nice owner photos, but no reviews. Next to Luna “Health Spa”. Very Bizarre. Can’t wait for the Health Dept visit.

Makes me think it was done to force out old tenants to get higher paying tenants.  Seems fishy that everyone had to leave because the building was going to be developed (at least, that's what we thought here), to be replaced with other businesses.

No doubt those business people who had to relocate took a financial hit, and I'm not so sure we can be confident every business was even able to relocate.

less odd to have no reviews than to have four reviews, all by the owner, as French Roast Bakery (see other thread) has....

We went this morning. We have definitely been sleeping on this place. Had beautiful huevos rancheros and french toast. I tasted the french toast and it seemed like challah french toast... It seemed like a really good version... I was going through my mind's library and wondering if Mexicans make something like challah... Do they use a cemita bread? hmmm, my parents would really like this place... I asked the server and then she goes and asks the head guy. He comes out and says that he used to work at Fred's at Barneys and they use the same exact ingredients as they do! And he does salads similar to them, all fresh made etc etc. He also said they are waiting for the liquor license soon and hopes it picks up then but damn, this place is a gem.

And the owner actually mentioned JHL and he thought people might be avoiding it because someone said they haven't even been inspected yet. I felt bad for him and said they were stupid (sorry, but the letter grade means very little). The place is spotless. He's been waiting for them to come!

I would think that a more likely reasons for people to avoid it would be that the name is similar to the sketchy looking spa next door and it's in an eyesore of a building.

WD 50 was one of the finest restaurants in America, and it was in an eyesore of a building.

Laly's is great, go check out that thread of affected people bemoaning it sitting under the train and having windows. People like to complain.
