There's actually another new bakery in the area, French Toast Bakery on Roosevelt at 70 https://www.yelp.com/biz/french-toast-bakery-jackson-heights

will have to check it out someday, but the slew of fake reviews on yelp are off putting. every one a rave...and every one from someone who signed up just to review this place. maybe if one actual person weighs in....

I went to French Toast Bakery last weekend. It's legit. The olive rosemary bread was wonderful. Great coffee too. I was really surprised to stumble upon it.

Yes, a bit off-putting to see 4 reviews and all apparently fake.

On the other hand, Farine is doing quite well on Yelp with 73 reviews and a solid 4 stars, with most reviews coming from members who have many more than 1 review on the site. https://www.yelp.com/biz/farine-baking-company-jackson-heights

Their star rating would probably go up if they could solve the service issues, which seems to be most people's main complaint. I don't see much negative feedback about the food or presentation, so that's good :)

went to Farine (again) today and ordered a couple small things to take out. as i was leaving, a young woman said "excuse me, would you like a cappuccino?" i must have looked confused, because she held up a cup and said "i'm training and i wanted to see if you thought this tasted alright." it did. a very nice lagniappe to the visit.

The reviews on Yelp for French Toast Bakery are a bit off putting, but I tried their baguette and a mushroom, spinich, gruyere tart and both were quite good. Didn't have it, but the pecan pie looked awesome too.

Had lunch at Farine on Friday, during which they were filming a segment for NY1 about "the best chicken sandwich" in Queens. They still don't have it together organization-wise, which we found both amazing and amusing, as we were not in a hurry.

We went up to the counter and ordered, and the young woman seemed to be punching our orders into her register. Then she said we should sit down and someone would bring us the food. She did not ask for money.

Confused, we sat down and a few minutes later a waitress came by and asked for our order. We said we had already ordered. She went away to check on that, then came back and said that no, we had not ordered because she was supposed to take our order for table service vs takeout.

So--confusing. But she was very accommodating and sweet and the food was absolutely delicious. My husband had the scrambled eggs and salmon on a croissant, which came with salad, and I had the grilled chicken club sandwich, which came with fries. Everything was truly excellent--I'm almost sorry I had that sandwich, because now I'm craving it, and it was not exactly a weight-watching meal choice. I don't get why they can't get their act together, service-wise, but the food is outstanding and the staff is amiable, seem to be doing their best, and not simply neglectful--so I wouldn't avoid the place because of that. They seem to be doing very good business, which is great for the neighborhood. And they seem to be popular with people of every ethnicity you see in JH. So far I have stayed away from the pastry, but it all looks amazing.
