Amnesty International / Write for Rights Event
« on: January 24, 2019, 11:08:53 PM »
Write for Rights with the Flushing Amnesty Group

Write For Rights is Amnesty International’s largest annual human rights campaign.  People like you around the world write letters on behalf of people who need urgent help. Through the power of collective action, these letters convince government officials to free people unjustly imprisoned and end other abuses.  This year’s 11 cases are women human rights defenders under threat.

Sunday, January 27, 2019, 1:30-3:00 pm
Free Synagogue of Flushing, 126-23 Sanford Ave at Kissena Blvd
Just three blocks south of the Main Street station on the #7 line
All are welcome

Join us to write letters for victims of violence, abuse, and unjust imprisonment around the world. This year the focus is on women.

Background information, sample letters, writing materials, and refreshments will be provided.

Our guest speaker will be Naheed Samadi Bahram, New York program director for the nonprofit Women for Afghan Women and a member of the inaugural class of New York City’s Immigrant Women Leaders Fellowship.

Music by the Willow Interfaith Women’s Choir.

Is there any way to still write these letters now that the event is over? Love that some local group cares enough to do this.

Thank you for your interest!

More information on the "Write for Rights" campaign is here:
https://write.amnestyusa.org/

Today is officially the last day of the campaign, but I'm sure letters would be welcome at any time.  There are also ways to get involved outside this particular campaign.   See Amnesty's website here:
https://www.amnestyusa.org/take-action/

The Flushing Amnesty Group holds this event every year, usually in December or January.
