I'm curious why any tax-paying American citizen would support this...

"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Proposes Full Welfare Benefits for All Immigrants, Regardless of Legal Status"
https://www.newsweek.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-just-society-trump-immigrant-visa-ban-1463422

This proposal is uncosted.....but a good question:why would we spend money on the poor in need of help?

Why not look at expenditures that are happening now, and are vast.

Let's look at real big-ticket items.

$2.1 trillion tax cut: the rich are winning
https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-tax-plan-consequences/
(from Bloomberg! hardly the left wing)

Or the military? We spend more than the next 12 biggest countries COMBINED, >1/3 of global expediture on war - that's YOU, the US taxpayer spending more than $640 Billion on the military  every year!  All those defense contractor McMansions and BMWs, all those lobbyists 2nd and 3rd houses, all those boondoggles of billion-dollar failed weapons systems and futile wars killing hundreds of thousands of people - including thousands of americans -  you paid for them, with your taxes!

As AOC says, we only ask about $ when it comes to the poor or the non-white or the immigrant. We have trillions for the military and the rich.

Why aren't all these outraged taxpayers talking about them?

Any estimate that might be offered would be unrealistic.  If you dissolve your national borders and promise full retirement, medical, and welfare benefits to any person that crosses that border regardless of whether they do it through legal means then you are creating an endless exponential drain on the resources of this country.

What on earth is the point then of being a U.S. citizen?  Just having the privilege of paying for everyone else?

(Military budgets are off topic and have no essential application to this question.  And yes I think the military should be cut drastically).

Way before caring for non USA citizens, perhaps we need to look after the homeless and poor US citizens in this country.

There is a whole strata of US citizens living at third world standards who are being ignored.

Other first world nations have far better welfare systems for their OWN citizens than the USA.

It is a bizarre and illogical concept to look after citizens of other countries when we don't first look after our own citizens in this country. Perhaps we need to start by addressing the poverty of US citizens in rural areas and states.

Amen!
I would vote for any politician, of any stripe, that was going to revive the war on poverty. We see it, we recognize it, but the immense poverty in our inner cities and our suburbs and rural areas is heartbreaking and at the root of so many of our social problems. POVERTY. Why when we spend so much tax money on all of these other things? It's complicated with the military, for example, because it continues to be a way out of poverty for many young people in American who lack the resources for further training or education. I have a family member who is now an MD in his 30's who went through military training out of high school and has no debt but comes from a low income and very broken household. Am wondering  if the Democratic candidate Andrew Yang is on to something with his plan and think another Poor Peoples March on Washington or similar is in the offing.

Why must everyone look at government to do this?  It never has, and never will do a good job with it.  There are numerous charities that do this kind of work, and do it both effectively and efficiently.  Anyone who wishes can put their money where their mouth is, and donate.

if only we treated corporate welfare recipients that way. anyone who wishes to patronize big oil or airlines can put their money where their mouths are and purchase the products without the rest of us subsidizing those concerns with our tax dollars.

I do believe that it is culturally ingrained in the USA to blame folks for their own poverty.

Other first world nations don't think in the same way. The nation doesn't blame folks for their own poverty.
And so overseas, in first world countries, there is a greater attempt to address poverty issues by the government itself.

I agree.  There should be no corporate welfare or subsidies of any kind.

I don't think there can be an end to poverty until we, as a society, stop treating poor people like beggars.

Not sure (unclear) what "beggars" has to do with it.

The USA has no safety net for its citizens. For healthcare, housing, unemployment, etc.

All other first world nations do have safety nets for their citizens as part of their country's fundamental structure.

In the USA, if you fall, you fall all the way.

It's simply the difference culturally between the USA and other first world nations.

Huh?  Are we living in the same country?  The USA has many safety nets for people.  Food stamps, federal housing, Medicaid, social security, guaranteed emergency care, unemployment benefits etc etc.

European, British, Australian and Scandinavian citizens receive many, many more benefits than we do.
Simply part of their infrastructure.

It's the reason when Mr Trump asked "Why don't Norwegians immigrate here?"

Because citizens of most other first world countries are fearful of losing their free health care etc.

the executives that have been installed in the federal government are intent on making sure the US leaves "first world" status before they depart our shores.
