Sunday, Nov 23rd - Hornado Ecuatoriano

and for those of you who wanted Colombian, don't worry, there's plenty of places on the queue for the coming months east of 86th street on 37th. Wow, Corona... what a hotbed of authenticity! Some great adventures to be had there.

So for this month, we are keeping it close, keeping it Ecuador.
I will post much more, but my battery is running out and the Astoria library doesn't have outlets. Sorry for the delay, I've been very busy at work, but now that we have a president, it's back to being paid to surf online.

Tell your friends, a message you'll send,
tell your foes, smell unto your toes

who's in?

This coincidentally falls on a convenient day for me, so I expect to be there. Heaven knows if I shall be able to eat anything there, but that is another story.

I'll be there, and I'm letting some other people know about it too.  And Mark, Ecuadorian food really isn't all that "out there" so I'm sure you'll have an easy enough time finding something to eat.  Could you post the address, Jeff?  See you guys then.

76-18 Roosevelt Ave

There are two Hornados, the other is near 82nd street. I won't even mention that one anymore so as not to confuse.

How about me meet at 7pm. sounds good?

other locals and adventurers not on the JHL are supposed to be coming. tell your friends, let me know if you are in, and let's see what we can do!

Thanks for the concern, Erika, but I was really talking about my low-carbohydrate diet: I can’t eat rice, beans, tortillas or anything breaded, but maybe I mistakenly liken Ecuadorean cuisine too much to Mexican.

Oh, whoops.  Now that you mention that I remember your saying so at the Tibetan Yak.  From what I recall, Ecuadorian dishes don't have any of that (rice, beans, etc.).  The sides are usually corn or potato, which I know isn't any better, but main dishes don't usually involve bread, so you should be good.  Smiley

There's another thread on Ecuadorian food on JHL.  You can find it here.

I'm imagining the "Coktails" listed on the menu are ceviches.  Ceviche is prepared different types of ways, but basically it is seafood that isn't boiled, baked or fried but rather "cooked" by the citric acid in lime or orange juice.  Sometimes the seafood comes in a cold tomato/orange/red onion soup and other times it is served on it's own.  I prefer the soup version, which you can sprinkle with toasted corn kernels or popcorn... so delicious!

Oh, funny!  My abuela (who's actually Puerto Rican, but her husband was Ecuadorian) always cooked the shrimp, but my mom made it seem like she did it that way because she didn't trust the citric acid deal, but I guess she was just doing it authentic Ecuadorian style all along.
