1st Winter storm of 2018, Jan. 4
« on: January 03, 2018, 06:51:03 PM »
Is everyone ready for the Nor'easter? I foolishly went to Trader Joe's in Chelsea late this afternoon and the lines threaded and looped through the whole store, much longer than usual. And the produce section was decimated.

Last I checked the forecast is about 6" in Queens. NYC schools will be closed tomorrow 1/4/18

very minor lines at foodtown, got what i needed to round out the turkey breast that's in the oven for a couple of days worth of meals. i never really understood why people feel like they need three or four loaves of bread for a two day storm (unless they have six kids).

Especially in NY when you can just walk to the store even while the snow is falling!

The cashier at Trader Joe's told me there could be a few factors at play in addition to the storm -- people returning from the holidays with no food in the house, one day when they couldn't shop at all (Jan. 1 when it was closed). One time I recall passing by the outside of the Chelsea TJ's location on a normal Monday at 7 pm and there was a line on the sidewalk to get in. So I guess people will wait in line to shop there at all times.

I went to Food Bazaar on Northern Blvd. at about 7:30 to pick up a few items... it was a madhouse!  In addition to the snow, they're forecasting wind gusts of up to 50 MPH tomorrow!  Despite the lines at the market, I'm glad I went today.

Storms must bring out french toast cravings. Milk, eggs and bread fly off the shelves.

Or concerns about delivery disruptions, or limited ability to go out, or sheer hate for the cold.
