Freshly grated parmesan in the hood?
« on: March 24, 2017, 05:10:39 PM »
I used to buy parmesan cheese at Italian Farms. They would cut a small piece and grate it for me.  I've been looking for a new source in the neighborhood. Any suggestions?

Buy a block of it the next time you're near a good cheese store and pick up one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Microplane-40020-Classic-Zester-Grater/dp/B00004S7V8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1490392818&sr=8-3&keywords=micro+grater

Blocks keep for a while as long as you store it correctly and you always have it on hand.

D'Espana is pretty much exclusively Spanish cheeses and other products.

the best nearby place, in my opinion, is Sorriso in Astoria. outstanding Italian products, especially cheese and in-house salumi.

While I love the linear microplane, the microplane cheese mill*  is where it's at for making lots of great parmesan grating

It's not in the neighborhood, but Leo's Latticini on 104th Street is great.  Their Locatelli is wonderful.
