Where to buy cheese?

Is there anywhere in the vicinity where one can find a selection of different cheeses?

Maybe not within the vicinity, but in Woodside.... The cheese selection is quite nice at Fresh on Queens Blvd. just before it hits Roosevelt heading north. You can take the 7 to 46th Street and return on the 32 for the price of one ride, and vice versa. Across the street is Parrott, great for olives and tons of Eastern European stuff, including more cheeses.

You just reminded me that I would have been buying port salut at Italian Farms at this time.

For Italian cheeses, Leo's Latticini in Corona.

Otherwise, Foodtown has a fair selection of prepackaged cheeses.

Haven't been to Despana--strange, since I'm a fan of anything Spain (except bullfights).

Please let us know the outcome of your cheese quest.

Merry Christmas, Dotley.

You should rush over, today, Jeanette. The have tastings of all the cheeses/sausages/etc. every SAT. Great way to try 'em out before buying!

I also buy a few cheeses at Lemon Farm quite often.

I didn't know much about DespaƱa either, other than seeing the listing on maps of the area. But once we move to the area, I think I may find myself there quite often. We love to eat charcuterie and cheese plates at home, both when we have guests and as a meal.

Astoria Bier and Cheese is a schlep, but worth the trip. I think Caviar will also deliver from them.

Also, Consider Bardwell brings quartet cheeses to the Greenmarket on Sundays.

They have some nice stuff to choose from and it's easier than schlepping over to the West Village to Murray's, which is the only other place in the city they bring their cheese to.

Despana is really good. I like treating myself to marinated octopus from there, too.

I'd like to second this. We are lucky to have Consider Bardwell at the Jackson Heights Greenmarket.
