Want to Eat Organic and Local??
« on: April 05, 2015, 11:14:11 AM »
We are are currently accepting applications for Farm Spot's Community Supported Agriculture program (CSA) for Jackson Heights' Summer 2015 Season!

This year we have Golden Earthworm Vegetable Shares, Briermere Fruit Shares and this year we are partnering with Said Atiq and Sali Artisans to offer olive oil, amandou (nut butter) and Morrocan spice options.

As in previous years, our vegetable distributions will be at St. Mark's Church 5:30pm - 8:15pm every Thursday for 26 weeks starting on May 28th and ending on November 19th.

The fruit share will run for 16-20 deliveries, starting at the end of June/beginning of July, depending on when the fruit is ripe.   The Sali Artisans shares are on specific dates mentioned below.

This share contains 6 to 10 organic items each week, depending on the season and availability. In summer: Watermelon, Potatoes, Garlic, Red Tomatoes, Basil, Green Beans, Eggplant, Zucchini In fall: Fennel, Potatoes, Lettuce, Broccoli, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Toscano Kale, Winter Squash, Celeriac.  The amount is enough to feed a family of three to four for a week. Many Farm Spot members split one share between two households. Please note that members organize this on their own and Farm Spot does not coordinate half shares.

Golden Earthworm Farm is teaming up with Briermere Farms to offer a non-organic, yet responsibly grown, minimally treated fruit share. Beginning in July, the fruit share includes blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, pears, apples, and possibly apricots, plums and nectarines. (Fruit share is available without the vegetable share.) The value of each fruit share is deducted from the total season’s payment and fruit is delivered weekly until the full value has been delivered.

Subsidized Shares

We have a limited number of subsidized shares.  Please check the income requirements to make sure you are eligible before signing up for these shares.  We are also accepting donations towards our subsidized share program.  We really appreciate even small donations, it helps us to bring CSA shares to folks who might not otherwise be able to join the Farm Spot community!

VOLUNTEERING

There is a volunteer commitment of 4 hours per membership (remember, if two households split a share, it is a total of 4 hours per share, not per household). Please feel free to contact Jessica Ramos, our volunteer coordinator, with any questions: volunteerfarmspot@gmail.com

SHARE PICK-UP

Thursdays between 5:30 pm - 8:15 pm, at St. Mark's Church, 33-50 82nd Street, Jackson Heights. If you do not pick up your share during those hours, it will be donated appropriately, we are unable to save shares. If you are unable to pick up your share yourself, you may ask a friend or neighbor (even if they are not a Farm Spot member) to pick up your share on your behalf. Please remember to give them the principal share member's name (the name that your share is listed under in the sign-up book).

TERMS

Members understand that it is their responsibility to stay informed of CSA announcements each week either through our website, e-mail or at the distribution site. In order to minimize our expenses, we will be communicating all Farm Spot related information via email.

Farm Spot is a community-based, volunteer-run group. We appreciate your interest, support and feedback. Looking hope to seeing you in May! Feel free to forward this information to anyone who is interested.  Email us at farmspot@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Warmly,

The Farm Spot Core Group

If anyone wants to split a share, please let me know! I did this last summer with a neighbor and we loved it. It's too much food for a couple, but sharing it with someone else works great. Please get in touch if you're interested! Comment back here or email me at rosenblatt.sarah@gmail.com
