Yes, it is quite a walk to the 74th street express stop, but the 65th M/R subway stop is quite close by.

The noise issue is not problem at all as there are good windows that can block out the noise. The new building at the 73rd street and the Roosevelt ave (literally next to the 7 train) was able to rent out all of the apartments after the initial failure of condos. I guess many developers use this building as a success story to build more residential rental buildings near the subway stops.

Yeah, I get off at 65th if I'm picking up BBQ at Legends on the way home.

The former White Castle regional office on 69th Street is set to be knocked down to satisfy a craving for residential real estate.

Email blast by Councilmember Daniel Dromm today:

"I am working very closely with the School Construction Authority (SCA) to build a new school in our neighborhood by acquiring the old White Castle Headquarters property located at 69-01 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights.  (See the photo above.)

Since I was elected to office in 2009, it has been my priority to add new school seats to our district.  I believe this old White Castle site would be a great location.

I am proud to have suggested the site to the SCA!

Now, it looks like we may have a deal but your input is needed.

The proposal will be discussed tonight, Tuesday, May 5, at 7 PM at the Community Board 3 (CB3) joint Education and Land Use Committee Hearing held at CB3's district office at 82-11 37 Avenue, 6th Floor. Space is limited.

There will be another presentation at the monthly CB3 Hearing at 7:45 PM on Thursday, May 21 at the Louis Armstrong Middle School, 32-02 Junction Boulevard.

I am very proud of this accomplishment and ask you join me in support of this proposal.

I look forward to seeing you at the Hearings."

I like the WC the way it is.

It would make a wonderful modernist makeover home. Noisy, yes.

I guess it wasn't landmarked or historiczided.

DNAinfo has renderings!

Overall, I'd say they're too stingy with the windows, and the south-facing playground/plaza at ground level looks like it will be hot and uninviting during the warmer/sunnier months.   Much as I love play spaces, the school might be better off with some trees here.

What do you think?

Looks like a hospital in South Jersey. Go back to the drawing board and liven this school up! Very dull.

I wonder what they will do about noise issues.  That location is right on the BQE and the off ramp to Northern, and the planes regularly land directly overhead.....

Officials to Break Ground on School at Former White Castle Offices

excerpt:
The five-story, 65,000-square-foot building at 69-01 34th Ave. will have a rooftop garden along with music and art classrooms and a science resource room, officials said.

It's being built by Purcell Architects, who sought inspiration for the design by the neighborhood's architecture, they wrote on their website.

Lately I have been power walking not only our neighborhood of Jackson Heights, but also Woodside, East Elmhurst and Corona, and I see SO many new school buildings that I cannot believe we have that many children to fill them unless the census count for Queens is off by a million people or more. (Just my observation... obviously if this facility is needed to relieve overcrowding in nearby schools, I'm for it.)

the only ones i could find actual data on are:
PS 69 -116% of capacity
PS 212 – 124% of capacity
IS 145 – 128% of capacity

i certainly see a lot of crowding, but i have no kids, so am not totally on top of the issue.
