looking for the Duchess Doll Corporation
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:40:39 PM »
I am doing some research and would like to know more about the Duchess Doll Corporation. My understanding is that it was probably located in Jackson Heights, NY in the 1940s. Would anybody know anything about it, where it was located, who were the owners and if there are any photos available?

If no one here knows, maybe you could try the Queens Historical Society ?  I am not sure what kind of research support / library access they provide.  Good luck.

The Museum of the City of New York has as a part of its toy collection a large doll collection containing exhibits from colonial times to the present.  Their research department might have info on where in Jackson Heights Duchess Dolls was located.

For more information about the Toy Collection, please contact Collections Access at research@mcny.org or call 212-534-1672 extension 3399.

I was born in JH and lived on 84th near Roosevelt till 1969.  I remember a big fire at a doll factory in our neighborhood probably in the early 6Os...wonder if this was the one.
