Crowley joins top lobbying firm
« on: February 19, 2019, 12:24:48 PM »
Should the head of the Queens Democrat party be a guy who works as a lobbyist in DC?

So if you want to be elected you hire this firm.

it fits well. the head of the EPA was a lobbyist who worked to kill the EPA, the proposed Secretary of the Interior was a lobbyist in opposition to environmental causes. sounds like a way into the executive branch!

What's wrong with lobbying?

I've worked in lobbying. I've worked on bills that have directly benefited society.

Teachers' unions have lobbyists. The ASPCA has lobbyists. Macy's has lobbyists.

I've also worked with PACs. Justice Democrats is a PAC.

Hopefully, NYC, which uses lobbyists, will hire him to bring jobs to Queens. We certainly could use the help!

I have a problem with people who work for the people then selling their access to former congress members. It is the “swamp” of DC. Money buys access.

Fair point.

Meanwhile, United Bodegas of America is trying to influence lawmakers to include them in the selling of marijuana products. Without lobbyists, they don't have a chance in hell. Don't they have a right to expand their revenue? Who they gonna call? The lawmaker directly? Heck, half the time politicians are on the campaign trail.

The lobbyist isn't doing anything immoral, but advocating o/b/o UBA. And like everyone else, needs to be paid.

There are better examples than a bunch of bodega owners wanting to sell pot. I really don’t want anyone to sell pot especially bodegas. We don’t need in JH pot smoking teenagers hanging outside of bodegas.

JK, I'm not arguing for local pot sales. I used the bodega owners because it was a timely reference. "We don't need" is not a valid argument. Perhaps bodegas will seek to sell cannabis products like brownies or cookies knowing that is less intrusive.

The lobbyist would research these issues, sell the idea to the sponsors, write the language, and connect with the leaders as the bill goes through the process.

It seems Crowley got the point that you can’t have both jobs.

The party boss is dead. This is the first time there will be a new party boss in a long time.

Jeanette, you are not Joe Crowley. You were not in a position of power for decades doing favors for corporations and now looking for a job from them. It is incredibly fishy.
