If the "criminal" activities are so easy to find, someone tell me why I can't find where to buy some decent herb.

Just go to Patel Brothers on 74th Street.  Along the back wall of the store, there's plenty of herbs and spices also!

I really don't care so much about the sex shop and the strip club as much as I care about the ILLEGAL HOOKERS AND SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD!

I totally agree.

I've never heard of anything illegal going on at London or at Atlantis.  Unless there is, there's nothing wrong with having them in business in our neighborhood.  Not every establishment has to be designed for children.

Romantico, however, is notorious as a front for prostitution, and if this is true, it should be shut down.  Open prostitution on the streets and the selling of social security numbers (I hadn't heard that one) should also be targeted.  Even if they can't instantly get to the head of the operation, the police could make things difficult for them, to the point that it wouldn't be worth their while.

Speaking of "social security cards"--on my way into the city last week there was someone standing on the bottom of the stairs on the 82nd street train station selling social security cards.  A young Hispanic man asked each person as the climbed up the steps--"social?-social?  Has anyone else encountered this. Pretty surprising post 9-11 I would think.

So, you see no problems with "immigrants" subverting the social security system, and the whole legal foundations of our country?  Also, if a few "individuals" use their phoney social security numbers to commit acts of terrorism, that's OK also, because it's balanced out by the "immigrants" who need to eat and feed their children?

But then again, if both the Democrats and Republicans don't give a damn about the rule of law, why should I?

Well stated John.  I'm very well aware of the plight of immigrants,  being the child of immigrant parents.  Be that as it may, selling social security cards is a  crime.  It often leads to identity theft which compromises the lives of many individuals and families. It aids to legitimize people who may not have our best interest at hand.

Man I love reading about you people talking about these illegal activities. They have been going on for years!!! These places get raided but it will never end. Plus it gives jackson heights it's edge. Less white people moving here is better. I'm not racist it's just that Middle income neighborhoods become plain after all the culture gets kicked out due to increasing rent and prices around them. I think the rest of people love the 1.00 coffee there lottery tickets there carts [edited by moderator to remove vulgarity]. could be worse they could be having an affair with there wives. Not only that those people selling social security card are providing a service to the hispanic community. You see when you guys need your Kitchens remodeled, or Bathrooms or any sort of construction done your 400k+ apartment you call the contractor, he give you an estimate and guess who shows up the following day Pedro, Juan, and Pepito, they get paid a fraction of what your paying for the job and they all have fake social security cards thanks to good old jackson heights.

<3 you guys!  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

John that's why I agree, and the best part about what killabob said was that no one ever said anything about it... 9/11 happened 7 years ago and ...we have invested billions of dollars into a war of nothing, and your still scared of terrorist...be scared of the economy.... I might be insensitive but the sale of social security cards have been selling since the 70's or 80's from when I can remember so you tell me where are the terrorist!!!  :police:

I don't know who you are, you're probably a perfectly nice person.  You may even be one of my sweet neighbors.  [Moderator Note:  This post has been modified in part because it violates the Rules and Guidelines  for this site pertaining to name calling.]

PS 69 is not next to Romanticos, London Boutique or the next-door tattoo parlor.  There's actually quite a distance between them.

Romanticos is NOT a strip club.  As an adventurous individual interested in all forms of culture, I ventured into this local nightspot to observe the locals...doing what the locals do.  It's basically a nightclub, only you have to pay the women to dance with you.  It's actually all very homely and PG.

Please stop being sensational.  You sound like you belong in Wisconsin.

The poster didn't say they had no problem with it, they just said they could understand it. I think that's a significant difference.

Isn't social security already subverted?
and I think it was the baby boomers that did it.
maybe if we had more people contributing, it would solve the problem. instead of a boom in births, it would be a boom in new citizens to support retirees.
I do not expect to get anything out of social security when I retire. basically I am giving away a portion of my taxes to a system that has zero chance of benefiting me directly.

but yeah, i was just saying that SS could use their help. let em in.

and what if one of those phony security card people saved us from terrorism??? Can you even fathom that? someone coming here and helping b/c of the warmth we showed them?  walk into a foreign store, if you are fearful, they will be suspect of you. if you have your eyes open and are warm, they will love you and help you.

several years ago...I believe in 1999 or 2000...my cousin bought one of these social security cards as a first hand experience of what illegal immigrants go through.  He was born a US citizen but did this as part of some grad paper he did (sorry but I can't remember the class).  He bought the cheapest possible card he could find mostly because he didn't want to spend a lot on this.  The card he got was decent but by no means would pass a thorough inspection.  Most people that buy these cards, as mentioned in other posts here, use it simply as evidence to employers (obviously they aren't applying for Wall St. jobs or to be senators) that they are legal aliens or residents.  Social services aren't even being considered because the last thing they want is to send their name and current address to a government body and risk being caught and deported from their tenement housing in some basement in Corona.
