If true...this is really quite sad. It amazes me how so many bars can exist on one avenue. It equally surprises me that the vote for the BID ha been delayed. It seems to me that the  creation of a BID would create greater over site as to the frequency of such  establishments and of course more "eyes" on what is going on.

Here's the news. Very little detail on the second shooting.

I really have no idea why this particular stretch has all this violence. I don't think there are more bars than anywhere else.

I live on 88th & 35th. I am affiliated with a performing arts studio on 89th. I catch the train at 90th. This is my backyard. There are a number of apartments on these corners that have tenants that gather outside the entrances and connect. There is a barber shop on 37th that is central of the apartments. Last time I was stopped by the cops (I am always getting stopped) the woman cop let me go with a compassionate warning. But oddly, she hardly looked at me and never looked at my insurance paper. She kept her eye on the barber shop, and she made eye contact with someone at the barber shop and even made some eye/head gestures to him. My opinion is there is gang activity centered around the shop--mind you not saying it IS the shop--and undercover is positioned there. My son went there once years ago, and refused to ever go back, even to walk past it. They would approach him. He was afraid of them.

Maravillosa is a lousy establishment too. I think what it is by day--a restaurant--is not what it is by night, with completely different ppl running it. These places, like the cabs, rent out and are open for business 24/7.

Every young man's life that is snuffed out for this BS/nonsense makes me very sad. We always focus on the criminal, but there is something very wrong at the core of our society that fosters this violence.

hfm is claiming that someone was stabbed there again last night. I haven't seen anything online about it. I know an older man was killed down the block by the train entrance a year or so ago.

In my experience, it's almost always quiet when I get off the train on the north side of Roosevelt. I'm on 90th twice a day just about everyday, in the early morning and late afternoon, and mostly it's just people going about their business, which is why I'm shocked to hear about this violence.

I said "shot in the back", which did happen on the date I posted it.

You did, and it did, so mea culpa. I'm curious as to why there is so little media coverage of this.

There is a Police Camera at the intersection of 90th and 37th and along the stretch between Roosevelt and 37th.

I always stay on top of local news, and Let us not forget these murders from 2013, sadly, it is a fact, that the 90th regio is for sure a very unstable area of our neighborhhood. Even though I have been there dozens of times, when I lived closer to there, and never experienced anthing bad at all, there is something about that area......?

this is why I keep my head down and don't argue with or confront people on the street. the other day at 37th and 73th, this man with a stroller and another small child started crossing the street and this lady was coming the other way. the lady bumped into the stroller and then said, why are you pushing that into me, moron? then she walked a few more steps, turned around and said, you fucking moron, while the man looked dumbfounded. people are crazy.

People are crazy! My auto-response for anytime I bump someone or they bump me is "I'm sorry", "Pardon", or "Excuse me" or some such response. Why get angry and risk a confrontation over something so stupid and, in the case of this lady, could have been your own fault.

After 10pm, it definitely starts bumping. I wouldn't worry during the day though. I wonder if the shooters knew the people who they shot...

Today I saw two uniformed officers at that corner at about 4:30. Hopefully they're still there after 10.
