Thanks. Actually, I moved here from a burb on Long Island and the only noise you hear there are crickets.

but crickets are SOOOOO loud!!!! Especially when you're not used to hearing them.  But I know what you mean.  The burbs are different.

Be thankful they were crickets and not roosters.  I just got back from Kauai and their roosters start crowing at 4am.  They run wild all over the island and they number in the thousands so imagine the ruckus!  Sorry...let me bring this back to the subject at hand- I also vote for rewording this post to under 35...wasn't there an article about my generation experiencing delayed adulthood well into their 30's?   ;)

thought I would bring this post back to life

i just joined the site and ive lived in jackson heights for all 22 yrs of my life lol Im in the upper 70's and my best friend lives in the mid 80's. Age is just a number to me really, buyt you dont seem to find too many ppl around my neighborhood (upper 70's around 37th ave) that are my age. Then again over 3/4 of my friends are all 25+ and the few people that are my age I grew up with. I went to high school in manhattan (performing arts hs) where everyone came from all 5 boroughs, so nobody was ever really close to me. Then for college I went up to Connecticut for 3 years and when I got back from school I went back to not knowing many ppl and always driving to my friends house either in long island or jersey.

so im glad i foudn this message board..now I see that JH is not as boring of a neighborhood that i thought it was lol

How about under 40? I fit into that category still.
Can I jump into this, too?

;D I'm under 25; just moved in recently. I am trying to learn more about the neighborhood. I see alot of property for sale around in my building, 80-09 35th Avenue. I am alittle skeptical about this. What's the reason for so much property for sale?

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Part of the explanation might simply be the changing demographics. In my particular building (just around the corner from you) almost every sale in the past three years involved older tenants who had been here for decades retiring and moving elsewhere (and selling their apartment for many times more than what they had paid for it, I might add).

Of course, the current economic situation also means that any apartment recently put up for sale will probably be on the market for quite a while until buyer, seller, and mortgage provider can all come to terms.

i'm 26 ... came to the neighborhood in december and love it. i've had good nights out at terrazzo and novo (37th av next to starbucks). haven't been inside starbucks but there's always a great mixed crowd at espresso 77 especially on weekends.
i just wish there was a little more space for live music around here, am i missing something?

When members of this group turn 31--and unless death intervenes, they will -- will we need to have an Under Thirty Alumni group added to the Board?   :-\
