I just discovered this week they have a Plastic Bag Recycling Bin, it is not in the most convenient place, passed the Coin Machine, but please use it !!

Plastic Bag Recycling at Foodtown- if you can find it under the various cartons et al dumped on top!

I generally use the Rite-Aid receptacles, but the door at that lobby was out of action today and I didn't feel like going through the store and back, so went to Foodtown. Left my little bag bundle on top on the bin, assuming it would eventually reach its destination.

Simka:  I just read the NY Daily News Article.   As a non subscriber, I'm allowed to read a certain number of articles a month (I'm not certain how many).  Since this is the first of the month, I was able to access the article.  I just returned from Foodtown where I purchased USA Wild Cod and Honduras Farm Tilapia which costs much more than China Tilapia.    I can only hope that I'm getting what I'm suppose to be getting.

Also thank you for the tip about clicking past a pop up to subscribe.  When the free articles run out, I'll do what you recommended.

Sorry for the late reply. It's possible I had not hit the 10 limit yet when I clicked through. Always an adventure, finding out if I'll be able to read anything when I follow links! I was surprised recently to discover I could read a WSJ article, since I hadn't been able to access one for a long time. But next time I tried, I was blocked again. Maybe they have specific articles that are free.

At Foodtown they have a section by the produce where they sell (presumably) washed and cut up chunks of vegetables, on small styrofoam or plastic trays, wrapped in cling wrap. I picked up one and noticed the sell-by date was several days before. Then I picked another up—same thing. I kept looking, and almost all the ones I picked up were a day to a few days past the sell-by date.

I was just searching the board trying to find a mention I'd seen of a coin machine, and here it is. Does this mean there's a machine at Foodtown where I can bring my coins and pour them in and then get cash for them? I don't remember ever noticing one of those there.

Yes, against the windows, actually there is too much going on there, near cashiers.
But the supermarket in the shopping center where Canelle is, has a better looking one.

same usurious 12 percent fee, though. if you can multi task well enough to roll coins while you're streaming/watching TV, you can save a lot of dough.

They don't charge if you select a gift certificate - I get Amazon.

Is the one in the Canelle plaza back? I thought they had removed it but perhaps I was looking in the wrong place if they just shifted it.

it changed hands, i think. i really liked the Waldbaum's, but was disappointed in the revamp. i don't get up that way a lot, so not sure what's up with it now.

Thank you all for your answers—a nice mixture of informative and amusing. The coins are heavy so I think I'll go to Foodtown. Jeffsayyes, though your offer is intriguing, I don't just want them counted, I want to exchange them for money, so it would only partly solve my problem.

I actually considered just handing the coin container to a panhandler, but I thought all that heavy change would probably be as much a burden on them as it is on me!
