Title: Wild Animal/Dog screeching?
Post by: emliv85 on January 27, 2018, 09:07:03 AM
I didn't see another topic about this and I'm really curious to know if anyone else hears what I'm hearing and knows what it could be...

I'm on 72nd St and 35th Ave - On a daily basis, several times a day, I hear what sounds like some kind of wild animal screeching. It's usually just one short screech at a time, doesn't last long, but it's pretty loud. I guess I'm just really curious as to what and who is making the sound.

Does anyone know?

Probably a raccoon. They are really vocal - they used to come wash their food in our backyard pool when I was a kid and they'd wake me up with their noises. Screeching was definitely part of their repertoire.

Foxes also make screeching noises during mating season but I think raccoons are more prevalent around here.

And you're sure it's not somebody's pet tropical bird?
