Gyms in the area?
« on: November 05, 2018, 05:27:58 PM »
I haven't noticed many gyms in JH. Thought I'd see where people on this board go for a workout. Any gyms you'd recommend?

these threads will give you the skinny.

To my knowledge nothing has changed since those threads were last updated in the options we have in JH, with one exception: pilates/yoga on 37 ave

To get classes, for example in Crossfit, you have to go outside the area

http://www.trainurbanjungle.com/crossfit-2
http://crossfitgantry.com/  (further away,  but off the express E train)

or go to astoria/LIC/manhattan.

There are three that I know of -- Blink at 78th/Roosevelt, Planet Fitness at 86th/Roosevelt, and Executive Fitness (2nd story above El Pequeno Coffee Shop at 86th/Roosevelt). I go outside the neighborhood to NYSC, as I don't find any of the options here that enticing.

Executive Fitness was offering two group fitness classes on Saturdays last I checked -- which was about six months ago.

Thanks all. It does seem like a more robust gym is something the neighborhood could use.

I've given up trying to find one and go to a gym near my office instead. I thought maybe the NYSC in Forest Hills would be an option for me but the weights section is a joke. I don't care about cardio and there is not one area gym with decent weights (except for a couple in Astoria that are too far from the train for me).
