Freelance journalists wanted
« on: June 20, 2008, 10:30:43 PM »
I have nothing to do with Latin Week, but this seemed like an interesting opportunity and relevant to this board, so I thought I'd post it here.

Company:    Latin Week New York
Position:      Freelance writers wanted for Latino weekly
Location:     New York, New York
Job Status:  Freelance
Salary:        Negotiable
Ad Expires:   July 25, 2008
Job ID:        940398

New York’s second largest free Latino weekly is recruiting freelance writers for our News and Features sections. Combined circulation is 40,000. We publish in English and Spanish. Our focus is on local news and politics (especially East Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx) and arts and entertainment. We are also looking to expand coverage of Queens, especially Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Sunnyside.

Typical story length is 750-1,200 words. Writers should be able to take their own photos to accompany their stories. We are ONLY looking to recruit NYC residents. We also encourage writers to pitch their own ideas. Especially strong writers may also have the possibility of writing a regular column. Writers do not have to be bilingual, but preferably should be able to speak conversational Spanish and/or have some knowledge of the Latino community in New York. We are especially interested in recruiting writers who can write fluently in Spanish.

Pay is up to $50 per story, but is negotiable based on length and work required.

Latin Week is an equal opportunity employer.

To apply or pitch a story idea, please e-mail a resume and two sample clips to epachico (at) College students with strong writing skills and journalism experience are also welcome to apply.
